BQ34Z100-R2: communication error.

Greetings,

I am trying to communicate with the BQ34z100-R2 using BQ-Studio and the EV2400, but despite connecting the I2C pins to the device, the GUI is not detecting it. I tried using an Arduino board to check the BQ34z100-R2's I2C address, and it indicates that it is 0x55, which is correct according to the technical reference manual. The GUI is currently attempting to communicate with the device only through SMBus, which I found to be problematic. Additionally, the 0x55 address is not listed in the address list provided, and I was unable to locate the I2C communication option. I tried to configure the BQ34z100-R2 using an Arduino UNO, but now I am having trouble communicating with it. It keeps disconnecting from me every two to five seconds. Can anyone help to communicate with BQ34z100-R2.

I am not using EVM, i have connected the circuit on a general purpose PDB.

Hi Janardhan,

I am currently having this same issue on one of my EVMs, I have currently not found a solution yet.

On your end, please use a stable power supply.

The BQ34z100 does not support SMBus communication.

Does the bqstudio auto detect the device?

Hi Evan,

I am using good quality bench-top power supply to power the circuit, I hope it works fine with the circuit. No, BQstudio is not detecting the chip.

I am not using an EVM board, i am trying to build my own PCB to test this IC. Please find the schematic, which i built to communicate the IC with BQ-Studio using the EV2400. regarding TS pin Pulsing i will update you in 2 day's.

Hi Evan,

I have connected my CRO to TS pin of the chip. After looking at the signal, I guess there is an issue with the chip or there may be a fault in my circuit. Please find the attachment.

Hi Janardhan,

It is difficult for me to review your schematic from the image you shared. I recommend reviewing the EVM schematic.

If the TS pin is not pulsing at around 0.6V your device is most likely damaged.
