TLVH431 and LP2951 at -55 to -40C

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLVH431, LP2951

The application is using TLVH431 and LP2951’s in avionics.  The spec sheets for these parts have a storage temp range -65C to 150C but a recommended operating temp range of -40 to 125C.  We need to understand the behavior of the devices in the -55 to -40C range.  Is it just a tolerance or current handling issue?  We see some plots down to -50C for various parameters.  We are trying to establish the behavior so we will not need to test every device.  In our application, these devices are significantly derated from your specs and they are non-precision applications; the temperature typically wouldn’t be in that unspecified band but we need to understand behavior there for startup and to insure there are no anomalies such as oscillations.

Thanks,
Eric

  • When using an IC at lower than recommended temperatures, the typical difference in performance is going to be related to the tolerance of the specification in the parametric table.  However, we still can not guarantee IC functionality or know if some shift in parametric performance will affect your system.  If you require specific performance at -55 deg C, I must recommend that you use ICs that are rated at -55 deg C.  If you choose to use these ICs at temperatures less than -40 deg C, it will be important that the customer fully characterize performance.  I'm sorry that we can not provide additional information at cold temperatures.
