When I use TPS4H160BQPWPRQ1 & TPS2HB16AQPWPRQ1 test loads inrush current parameter, find that TPS4H160BQPWPRQ1 can clamp output current, but TPS2HB16AQPWPRQ1 can't do this. Does this meet expectation?
For TPS4H160BQPWPRQ1, Vin=16VDC, Rlimit=1K 1%,DIAG_EN =3.3V,load inrush current is 2.544A lasted 400us(overcurrent clamped occur)(using 12V Lead-acid battery test inrush current is 8.761A lasted 200us)
add all loads test current of mine need to support(use 12VDC lead-acid battery test). can you give me some advices how to chose limit resistance? My input voltage is 9-16V
thanks~
Ling,
We provide the following calculation tool that will give you a linear interpolation of the current limit values and how to pick the correct resistor:

This tool will even account for the resistor tolerance.

Tim
Thanks it is useful
but this tool doesn't include TPS4H160B-Q1, can you provide TPS4H160B's calculatation tool?
Ling,
We are working on the calculator for the Hxx family of devices, however it will not be out until later in the summer. For the Hxx devices, we spec the current limit a little differently compared to the HB devices. The guidance is to take the "worst case" accuracy from the spec and use this for calculation. For example, if you wanted to set the current limit to 300mA, you would use the worst case +/- 20% value that is specified for 250mA.
A sample calculation with resistor tolerance can be seen below for a 500mA current limit:

OK thanks
I have another question
Load inrush test show that TPS4H160BQPWPRQ1 can clamp to 2.5A(lasted 300us),I concern that HSD will over-temperature. How to calculate this?
for my application scenarios, load inrush current is large, steady current is small.
such as load1/load3/load5, how should I set limit resistance?
Ling,
Sorry for the delayed response.
For the TPS4H160-Q1, the maximum current that you will be able to set the current limit is from 250mA to 7A. It is important to note that even at 7A, the device just clamps/regulates the current until the over current condition is removed (or the device goes into thermal shutdown).
To calculate the appropriate resistor, here is an example for your 6.25A use case:
Thanks for your reply
You can see my load1,inrush current is 13.4A,last 100us,for this loads weather over temperature risk?
Ling,
It depends on the layout of the board. We do have an Excel sheet calculator that I can share with you offline that would be able to estimate the temperature rise based on a standard JEDEC 2s2p layout. Would it be OK to send you this tool offline via your email address associated with your MyTI account?
Best Regards,
Tim
