TPS4H160-Q1: TPS4H160BQPWPRQ1 IO supply clarification

Part Number: TPS4H160-Q1

Hello team,

TPS4H160BQPWPRQ1 can be used with 1.8V IO supply for FAULT, INx, DIAG_EN, SEL, SEH, THER signals ?

But below it shows 0-5V. Hence asked. Do you have any Electrical chara with VS=1.8V ?

  • Hi Azlum,

This device can't reliably support 1.8V I/O operation as the logic high threshold may be up to 2V. The recommended operating conditions show what is safe for the pins for an extended time.

The TPSxHCx and TPSxHTCx devices here can support down to 1.5V I/O voltages.

    Thanks,

    Patrick

  • Hello Patrick,

However, recommended operating temperature is mentioned below (from datasheet). Refer to the section "7.3 Recommended Operating Conditions" in the datasheet.

    • Voltage on INx, DIAG EN, SEL, SEH, and THER pins - 0 to 5V
    • Voltage on STx and FAULT pins - 0 to 5V

However, other side, Electrical Characteristics is showing, pin minim voltage is 2V. Both screenshots are already inserted in the original question.

May I know which one is correct?

  • Hi Azlum,

The recommended operating conditions show the conditions in which the device can be reliably working, with an expected and safe outcome. So the INx, DIAG_EN, SEL, SEH, THER, STx, and FAULT pins can take 0-5V without damage. What the Electrical Characteristics table shows with the VIH spec is that in order to reliably turn the device on, the INx pin needs to go above 2V (the VIH threshold). The INx pin can be below 2V without damage, though.

Both tables are correct, and they are describing different things.

Also, I see in your original post asking if we have data at VS = 1.8V. If VS = 1.8V, the device will be off due to UVLO.

    Thanks,

    Patrick

  • Can we conclude like this ? Please confirm.

INx, DIAG_EN, SEL, SEH, THER, STx, and FAULT pins VIH (min) is 2V. Below 2V, chip will not detect as HIGH on IO pins, but pins will be safe condition since pin can tolerate 0-5V.

  • Hi Azlum,

That is correct. The only thing is that STx and FAULT are outputs so VIH(min) does not apply to them. Aside from that, yes, exactly.

    Thanks,

    Patrick
