EV2400: Got damaged when both of Vbus and AUX power supplied

Part Number: EV2400
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2113A,

Team,

My customer reported that EV2400 got damaged when both of USB Vbus and AUX power (5V/2A) are supplied because EV2400 behavior seems to be unstable. Customer confirmed U8 (TPS2113A) is burnt.
So, the customer is asking us the following questions.
1. Is AUX powering supported officially now? There is "future upgrade" notation at EV2400 web page (www.ti.com/.../EV2400).
2. Is there any possibility of EV2400 damage with using both of USB Vbus and AUX power supply?
3. Is the power of USB Vbus (5V/500mA) enough for using EV2400?

Thanks,
Nobuhiko Wasa

  • Hi Nobuhiko,

Based on the EV2400 schematic, I believe that the AUX powering should be functional and should not cause issues if both are attached:

U8 is an auto switching power multiplexer with the 5V from the AUX (after being regulated by the LDO) and the 5V from the USB source being the two options to the multiplexer at IN1 and IN2. I believe that both of these connections should be within the recommended voltage operating conditions unless there is an issue with U7.

If possible, can the customer measure the voltage and current that is being passed from VOUT on U7 to see if there is an issue with U7?

Yes, the power from the USB alone is enough to use EV2400.
