BQ40Z80: The number of cycles increases to 65535

How is the gauge being communicated with? Is bqStudio & EV2400 being used or is this a custom MCU being used?

Are there any static parameters within the data flash that are getting changed either when programming or pulling data?

Hi Anthony,

I don't communicate with the GG during the 100 partial cycles. After the 100th cycles, the test bench automatically stops the test and then I communicate manually with bqStudio and EV2400.
I have concatenated the dataflash static parameter changes for the batteries 1-1, 1-2, 2-2. You can check files.

Can you also tell me what the cycle count percentage that is being used? It is not listed in those sent files.

Loïc, can you provide some additional detail on the conditions of the 100 partial cycles and the final cycle? Such as charge time and current, discharge time and current, and length of time for any relax periods. I understand it you have no communication with the gauge during the cycling, is the EV2400 connected and idle or is it disconnected from the gauge?

1- nominal charge CC/CV @ 0.5C

2- break 1h

3- Partial discharge during 60 s, (pulses 18W avg during 6s and pulses 13W avg during 4s) executed 6 times

4- nominal charge CC/CV @ 0.5C

5- break 1h

6- Partial discharge during 60 s, (pulses 18W avg during 6s and pulses 13W avg during 4s) executed 6 times

7- nominal charge CC/CV @ 0.5C

8- break 10h

9- step 1

The EV2400 is disconnected from the gauge during the cycling

I have received an update regarding this from our firmware team. They do not believe there is a current workaround for this issue and would require an update to the firmware, which is not possible at this time. However, they believe that this issue should not impact the gauge functionality or the battery performance of the device.

I've made this request because there's a problem with the appliance, and my customer needs this value to determine the end of life, with SOH. We also need this value for after-sales service diagnostics. So we need this firmware with these additions.

Can you try my request again? This is very indispensable for us.

I will try the request again, however our firmware team has made it clear that there will be no firmware updates for this device at this time. I apologize for the inconvenience. 

Also, I do not believe that the State of Health of the gauge is reliant on the cycle count of the gauge, but the calculated Full Charge Capacity and Design Capacity of the gauge over the life time of the application.

Your cycle count function is not working correctly. We therefore need an update.

Also, my colleague who works on the BQ78350 sent me the same problem about the cycle count.

I agree with you about the SOH, but we need a correct cycle count.

The firmware team has reached out to me with other parameters that could be potentially causing this issue, however the setting files sent earlier do not contain these values. If possible, can you please tell me what the parameters below are set to on this gauge:

- Coulomb Counter Deadband & Current Deadband

- Power Config

- IT Gauging Config

- Design Capacity
