TPS923652: Power loss calculation for TPS923655 / TPS923654 / TPS923653 / TPS923652 LED driver

Part Number: TPS923652

Hi,

To determine if these LED drivers can be used for our application (backlight), we would like to be able to calculate the losses in the drivers. The datasheet does not provide the parameters to calculate gate charge losses (gate drive voltage,  Qg) and switching losses (tr, tf, Coss, Rgate). Additionally, are there spice models available? We ask for your support in order to make these calculations. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Customer,

I am currently out of office. I will reply to you on May 6th when I am back to office. Thanks for your understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Steven

  • Hi Valdez,

The gate charge loss is already taken into account for the parameter I_OP (Normal operating current) in Section 7.5 Electrical Characteristics from the datasheet.

From my experiment, usually the tr and tf is 10ns under V_SW = 20V condition. You can estimate the tr and tf for you SW voltage with a linear scale (e.g. 20ns for V_SW = 40V).

The C_OSS loss is very small compared to the tr/tf overlap loss, so you can neglect the C_OSS loss in your estimation for simplicity.

Sorry but there is no spice model available. If needed, we can provide the SIMPLIS model.

    Best Regards,

    Steven
