UCC27714EVM-551: About the input

Part Number: UCC27714EVM-551
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28951-Q1,

Hello, Team,

We have several questions from customer whose considering to do evaluation of UCC28951-Q1 with UCC27714EVM-551. They are trying to develop a DC/DC converter with 150V~900V input and 1kW output.

  1. The rated input voltage is max 410V. What is causing this limit? It seems that the switch used for the board is 650V tolerant so would it be possible to make the input rating higher if we exchange the components?
  2. The continuous output power is 600W; can it be configured to output 1kW max?
  3. The board requires a bias voltage input. Can we use Vin instead by stepping down it? Also, is there any other reason than UVLO where this bias voltage is required?

Best Regards,
Masaru

  • Hi Masaru,

Thanks for reaching out to TI!

We do not recommend implementing any modifications to the EVM, nor do we recommend exceeding the specs seen in the EVM user guide.

For question 3, could you elaborate further? Are you asking if you can use the Vin of 370V_DC - 410V_DC for the VDD of the driver and controller (after stepping down)?

    Thanks,

    Jeremiah

  • Hello, Jeremiah,

Thank you for your quick response. Our customer's intention is not to modify the board but actually use the board as a reference for their RD prototype. They wanted to check whether the design of EVM can be modified so that it can meet their requirement and would like to know what is the key careabouts when they are doing it.

For question 3, could you elaborate further? Are you asking if you can use the Vin of 370V_DC - 410V_DC for the VDD of the driver and controller (after stepping down)?

    That is correct.

    Best,
    Masaru

  • Hi Masaru,

Thanks for the clarification. While I understand the customer might want to make design modifications to the EVM for their requirement testing, we cannot recommend any alterations as it might cause unpredictable behavior.

As for stepping down the voltage from the Vin voltage, it is acceptable as long as it matches what the VDD requirements are for the EVM outlined in the User guide.

    Thanks,

    Jeremiah
