BQ79616-Q1: when Battery cell connector is plugged in, the IC damages within seconds

Part Number: BQ79616-Q1

Hi Team,

I'm currently facing a critical issue where as soon as the battery connector is inserted, the chip gets very hot and it burns out. I'm attaching the schematic here.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NH7_qdVkszZFwVJv0tkBFHm3v2qQq9Xl/view?usp=sharing

Few point i want to add here is that

1. the length of cell voltage(and balancing) sense cables are around 1meters in length

2. The CVDD supplies is also given to MCU via 3.3v LDO as a backup supply.(but this was later removed but the above issue still persisted with new IC's)

3.there are 2 stacks in total and each stack measures 10 cells each

Kindly check the schematic and any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Alex

  • Hi Alex,

I believe this may be due to cells shorting together or a misarrangement of the cell connections/cell harness. I am unable to view the drive due to internal policy so I will email you and we can discuss this issue further.
