BQ76942: Recommended communication transceiver

Hello,

I am working on a battery management system and have zeroed in the BQ76942 as the core IC with a setup similar to the datasheets recommended configuration, with the REG voltage outputs supplying current to the auxiliary components, but their max current draw is 45mA.

The communication transceiver would be a 5V CAN bus transceiver, yet I could only find ones that required about 70mA in dominant mode.

Is there a recommended CAN transceiver chip for a system which uses the BQ76942 ?

Hello Adrien,

Let me loop in the CAN Transceiver team to see if they have any recommendations for a transceiver that can be supported with less than 45-mA.

However, in the past reference designs (like the TIDA-010208) we have used a DC-DC to power the CAN Transceiver.

Unfortunately, we don't have a 5V CAN transceiver to meet the 45mA maximum supply current drawing, but our 3.3V transceiver will do.

I saw the REG on BQ76942 can be programmed for 3.3 V, do you think it may be an option for you? Otherwise like Luis said, a DC/DC converter will be needed.
