BQ28Z610: The co-work between gauge and charger IC

Part Number: BQ28Z610

Hi team,

For the description in BQ28Z610 datasheet:

I have below questions:

1 Does this mean that TI's fuel gauge can control TI's charging IC without the intervention of the MCU?

2 If it works, is that the fuel gauge broadcasts data as a Master IIC, will there be a conflict of IIC control when it connected to the host MCU?

  • Hello Kailun,

The Broadcast functionality allows the fuel gauge to broadcast the ChargingVoltage() and the ChargingCurrent() to the smart charger.

Please see the following from the BQ28Z610 TRM.

    Regards,

    Jonny.

  • Thanks Jonny,

    1. For broadcast function: it seems that only control charging volts and current. How could it control charger EN, term current, protection value?

    2. If there were no MCU, could we achieve PD fast charge function with only charger and gauge?

    3. Do we have reference design about smart charging system without MCU?

    Thanks!

  • Hello Kailun,

The broadcast mode on the BQ28Z610 only broadcasts the charging current and the charging voltage.

I believe the second question would depend on the charger.

    Regards,

    Jonny.
