BQ25756E: Can we use same connetor as input supply form solar panel and DC source supply

Part Number: BQ25756E

Hi,

I'm exploring battery-focused design and initiating the development of a BMS system catered to a capacity range of 240Wh to 300Wh.

Please guide :

1 ) Can we use the same point of connection as input of solar panel (MPPT) and DC Adapter input (12V to 30V DC)?

or Need to accommodate two different BQ25756E for both inputs?

2 ) What happens when the reverse mode is enable and solar/DC input is present?  is there any detection and control available in the device?

Please suggest.

Thanks & Regards,

Shashikumar Rai

  • Hi Shashikumar,

    1. It is preferred to have 2 BQ25756E for 2 separate inputs. One BQ25756E might work if you have a setup where only 1 input source is ON at a time and the other one is blocking in both forward and reverse mode. The charger will operate fine as long as it gets valid input.

    2. When the reverse mode is enabled, it does not automatically mean that the device goes into reverse mode and starts operation in reverse direction. As long as the forward voltage is within valid range, the device will continue to operate in forward mode. When the device is no longer in forward mode, then the device goes into reverse mode. Then, the reverse mode bit has to be cleared to make the device operate in forward mode again.

  • Hi, Thanks For the Prompt reply

    1. As I Understand if I use only one connector and connect any of the one source ( solar panel or DC source)  at a time then it works fine.

    is it right?

    please suggest.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi, you are right, if only one source is connected at a time, it should work fine.
