Hello,

TI part PTN4050AAZ is obsolete. We have several products with it we need to support. I need to design a DC-DC as an inverter in the same footprint as a tiny daughter card so I can replace PTN4050 with the newely designed DC-DC in my PCB

Can you help me find an inverting DC-DC? I have two configurations to support. 5V IN to -6V (At 1A max) or 5V (At 1A Max).

It looks like TPS62913 can be set up for Inverting buck boost (IBB)?

Is there are newer part? If so can you help me design a circuit for achieving the same functionality as PTN4050AAZ?

Also, there are 5 pins on the PTN4050AAZ. Can you tell me what that part number is I can incorporate the same on the PCB I am designing.

If this cannot meet 1A, will TPMS63610 work? Or recommend me an alternative.

I am just want to clarify here: so for inverting power rail, you will need one rail for 5Vin to -5Vout and 5Vin to -6Vout, am I correct?

Actually TPS62913 supports 0.8-V to 5.5-V output voltage range. So for inverting buck boost, Vout should be set as -0.8V to -5.5V.

Could you pls kindly share me your end equipment/application? I am just want to better understand where -6V is powered for?

If you need 5Vin to -5Vout/1A, TPS62913 will be a good option here. For the junction temperature at 1A with TPS62913 IBB EVM board, I am requesting the EVM board now and it may takes several days for me to get the board and test the thermal performance for you.

If you need 5Vin to -6Vout/1A, will low noise and low ripple a must requirement for your application? If not, we have TPS563252 which can support up to 10Vout.

I am trying to redesign a board in the dimensions of TI PTN4050AAZ. I need t convert +5V to -5V or +5V to -6V in two applications.And 1A. I need it for an audio application. I am using linear regulator after this step to generate quiter voltages. For example, the -6V will go to an LDO to generate -5V to power an op amp. Can we set TPS563252 in IBB? Is there an evalboard to try?

Thanks for your feedback! I am just curious, if this rail is from +5V to -6V (Buck configure as IBB) and then -6V to -5V with LDO. Why not just use one TPS62913 and configure it as IBB to generate -5V? TPS62913 target for low noise and low ripple performance.

I am replacing designs with already existing PTN4050AAZ. I have to do a form fit replacement. That is why I need 5 to minus 6.

Hi Ramgopal,

Got you! Yes, TPS563252 can support IBB. An EVM board which is exactly TPS563252 IBB is not available. But you can configure TPS563252 Buck EVM as IBB.
