TPS55288: Output capacitor

Part Number: TPS55288

Hi

I'm designing a USB PD application with TPS55288.

The input voltage of my application is 24V thus TPS55288 works as only back mode.

Can I reduce the output capacitance less than 100uF in this case? Are there any possible side effects?

[Other parameters]

- The PD spec is up to 20V 5A.

- fsw = 400kHz

- Inductor = 4.7uH

  • Hello Eugene,

We have the Excel calculator to check the possible external components of the TPS55288. Please have a look here: SLVRBF9 Calculation tool | TI.com

I expect that you need to adjust the compensation of the device. In addition lower output capacitance means higher ripple voltage and higher voltage drop in transients. The transient response can get faster with the right compensation.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
