BQ77PL900: Radiation Hardened BMS IC

We currently utilize the BQ77PL900 BMS in several of our Battery Products, and have been scoping the BQ76942 for improved Cell Balancing and tolerances. However, we are also scoping Radiation Hardened (for an Aerospace application) the appropriate BMC IC (8-12 Cells).

Can you provide some guidance?

Hello Barry,

The BQ76942 has not been tested for radiation, unfortunately. We have not done this type of test before for our AFE devices.

Have you performed radiation tests for the BQ77PL900?

Hi Luis,

Thank you for your response. We have not performed any radiation-tolerant testing on either of these BMS IC. We are requesting whether TI has any BMS ICs that have been tested and determined to be radiation-tolerant. Please let me know.

Hi Barry! I manage TI's Space systems team. In the past, TI has tested some of our Battery Management Products for radiation effects. All of the devices that we tested failed our criteria for rad-hard devices. My team has put together a reference design using our discrete components (ADC, amplifiers, comparators, and a microcontroller) to perform the battery monitoring and cell balancing functions. I would be happy to share more details with you offline if you are interested.
