TPS6593-Q1: PMIC operation with 5V input

Hi Team, 

I have the below questions

Q.1

I have a customer using 5V as the input to the PMIC DC/DCs and  LDO12 and LDO4.

Do you see some concerns using 5V input.

Q.2

Customer is using a DC/DC that is not controlled by the PMIC IO to sequence for generating SOC 3.3V SYS voltage..

Is there a startup delay associated with the PMIC for the output supplies to start ramping after the input is applied.

    There is a requirement on the LDOs, depending on their configuration and input voltage relative to the VCCA.

    From below, if the the LDO is used as a traditional LDO, it is has the upper limit of the VCCA and should not be exceeded.

    So a configuration of 3V3 of VCCA is not recommended to have a 5V PVIN for LDO[1/2/3/4].

    The bypass (load switch) mode allows upto VCCA (3V3), or upto 3V6 on the PVIN for LDO[1/2/3/4].

    Special consideration for using it in bypass mode, resistance for a given current pull:

    Yes, please see the following below from the datasheet, the specifications are also listed in the section 7.

    The power sequence is highly dependent of the programming of the device.

    From section 6 Pin Configuration and Functions: If the devices aren't being used, they still must have the PVIN attached to VCCA in order to pass the BOOT_BIST.

    Thank you for the inputs. I referenced the below application note and that helps.

    The app note mentions the below connection

    PMIC open drain signal AM62A signal name AM62A Power Domain

    nINT EXTINTn VDDSHV0

    The Actual connection in the AM62A SK is as below 

    The nINT from the PMIC connects to MCU_SPI0_CS0 E11 of the SOC.

    Could you share your thoughts on the use case for the nINT and recommended connections.

  • Hello Kallikuppa,

    For the nINT it's an open drain like you've said, as long as the nINT is pulled up to the proper power source, like in the datasheet below, the net tied to while drive the signal in the appropriate & expected manner.

    As to the net to be tied, please check with the AM62A team for reassurance, as their software/hardware setup is something unfamiliar to myself how they handle hardware interrupts.
