BQ24232HA: current consumption is detected after charging is complete.

Part Number: BQ24232HA

Dear TI experts,

My customer tests BQ24232HA with their own PCB.

They send me the log file, and I can see the current consumption after charging is complete, during about 1 hour. After 1 hour, no more current consumption is detected.

Could you check the schematic first? and Also review the log file, and advise me why this behavior is happened.

Design requirement
Supply voltage 5[v]
Fast-charge current of app 72.5[mA]
input current Limit 400[mA]
Termination current 0.0025[A]->2.5mA
safety timer duration, Faset charge 7.4[hour]
safety timer duration,precharge 44[min]
precharge current 7.3[mA]

And here is the log file of charging bevavior.

charging_0419_104027.xlsx

You can see the duration between 09:06:24 and 10:05.58. the current is moving 2.mA and -7.5mA. I want to know this is right operation.

And here are more questions.

1. Is there any limitation for design requirements? (i.e. fast charge current should not less than 50mA.)

2. In the log graph, charging current termination is suddenly moved from 11.01mA to 0mA. Is it right operation? I expected more slow curve.

FYI. This application is only for battery charging. No load is connected.

Please check these issues. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

Firstly, I have reviewed the schematic and found no clear issues.

Did the customer confirmed if /CHG status indicator pin is changing status to indicate termination at 9:07:09? Additionally what is the voltage measured at BAT pin during time duration where current is moving from 2mA to -7.5mA?

    1. Is there any limitation for design requirements? (i.e. fast charge current should not less than 50mA.)

Fast charge current cannot be not be set lower than 25mA and precharge current cannot be set lower than 2.5mA. The design requirements listed in the thread are compatible with the BQ24232HA.

    2. In the log graph, charging current termination is suddenly moved from 11.01mA to 0mA. Is it right operation?

Some tolerance on termination accuracy is expected. When charge current drops from 11mA to 0mA that is most likely the moment the device is terminating charge.

    Best Regards,
