BQ25790: The sys load current cannot reach 2.5A without battery

Part Number: BQ25790

Hi TIer

My customer will have no battery attached but the system needs to work due to application limitations, their goal is to output 2.5A of load current on the sys pin without battery, my customer tested the EVM board of BQ25790. find that they are unable to output load currents greater than 1A without a battery.

Is there any good advice to resolve this?

Or which chip can achieve that?

Thank you very much.

  • Hi Yuxi,

The charger has input current limit feedback loop.  The input current limit I2C registers is set to the LOWER of the ILIM_HIZ pin voltage as set by resistor divider or the negotiated current from USB BC1.2 source per D+/D-.  The EVM is set to ~1.5A input current limit.  ILIM_HIZ can be tied to REGN and D+/D- can be left floating for max input current. The host can set the input current limit register higher if the ILIM_HIZ pin is disabled using EN_ILIM pin.

    Regards,
