BQ24081-Q1: TE Signal

Part Number: BQ24081-Q1

I'm trying to understand the function of the /TE signal. In the datasheet it describes it as a Timer Enable signal that is "used to disable or enable the fast-charge timer" In the EVM documentation t is described as Termination Enable signal

Nowhere in the datasheet flow diagram can I make sense of the impact of the /TE signal on charging behavior.

Can anyone explain the impact of this signal on charge behavior?  Or should I just leave it tied to ground?

Thanks

  • Hi Colin,

Please allow me to clarify that /TE pin function is for enable/disable control of charge timer. It is not termination enable. The reference to "termination enable" in the EVM documentation is a typo. The description in the datasheet in section 7.3.9 is correct.

With this pin tied to ground the fast-charge timer will be enabled.

Can anyone explain the impact of this signal on charge behavior?

The fast-charge timer is a safety feature, which will stop device charging if there is no termination within approx. 7 hours. The specification on the time duration of the charge timer is t(CHG) shown on page 6 of the datasheet.

In addition to section 7.3.9 the following paragraph from section 7.3.4 of the datasheet describes the charge timer impact on device behavior.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
