bq24171 : AVCC diode-OR in Figure 1

bq24171 Figure 1 shows "Typical Application Schematic (12V input, 2 cell battery 8.4V, 2A charge current, 0.2A
pre-charge/termination current, 3A DPM current, 18V input OVP)"

In this diagram, AVCC (power supply to bq24171) is diode-ORed with VBAT and 12V Adapter input. But, AVCC operating range is MIN 4.5V MAX 17V. VBAT voltage is normally MAX 4.2V for Li-ION batteries.

What is the reason why AVCC is diode-ORed with VBAT? Why do you need to source its power from VBAT in this Figure 1?

    Figure 01 is typical application circuit for 2 cells. VBAT is not 4.2, it is 8.4V. For 1 cell applications, VBAT is not required.
