BQ25620: Could sys load current reach 2.5A without battery?

Part Number: BQ25620

Hi TIer

My customer will have no battery attached but the system needs to work due to application limitations, their goal is to output 2.5A of load current on the sys pin without battery, my customer tested the BQ25620 on their own board. find that they are unable to output large load currents without a battery.

So could BQ25620 support source current without battery?

How can I tell if a charging chip can operate without a battery?

Is there any good advice to resolve this?

Thank you very much.

  • Hi Tony,

BQ25620EVM board can support 2.5A of load current at SYS pin without battery attached.

Is the customer testing with charge disabled? With no battery connected charge must be disabled via /CE pin or EN_CHG bit (REG0x16 bit 5) for device to prioritize SYS pin regulation.

Additionally does customer have IINDPM set high enough to allow 2.5A output current?

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
