TPS65218D0: I2C speed

Part Number: TPS65218D0

Hi,

Customer is using 100KHz I2C to control TPS65218D0.

However sometimes, it is changed to 400KHz and returned to 100KHz.

Is there any issue?

Can customer set I2C speed to 200 or 300kHz non-standard?

Thanks.

  • Hi David,

There are I2C timing specs listed in the datasheet under Section 4.6. 100KHz and 400KHz are both nominal I2C frequencies but there is no listed min and max surrounding these specs. You might be able to use intermediate frequencies since the PMIC can handle up to 400KHz. Note that we have not tested the communication at these middle frequencies extensively so I'm not entirely sure what the risks are.

My recommendation would be to stick with 100KHz or 400KHz just to match the datasheet but anything in between that timing range would likely be acceptable to the PMIC.

    Regards,

    James
