BQ40Z50-R2: Can the LED display be configured to be continuously on?

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2

Hello,

We have an application that needs to display the LED charge status continuously while the application is powered on.  Is there a setting that will allow this?

Thanks for the help.

  • Hi Daniel,

I believe this can be configured to meet your application needs, since there are options for both Current > 0 and Current >= 0. However, I do see there is an implication for when LEDCHG = 1, it will only display when charging. Please let me look into if disabling LEDCHG will allow for display during all states.

  • Hi Anthony,

Any ideas on if there are some configuration settings that allow the LED display to be on during discharge or how this might be accomplished?

    Thanks,

    --Dan.

  • Hi Dan,

I believe that this section could be of use as well:

However, I still believe this might be reliant on the usage of the DISP pin and the LED Hold Time parameter. In this application are they planning on using the DISP pin?

  • Hi,

In this application, we're attempting to show the battery state all the time while the unit is powered on (both charging or discharging) and the user doesn't manually activate the disp pin..

  • Hi Dan,

Understood, I do not believe it is possible to have the LED permanently on via configuration, however I believe it might be possible if you set the LED Hold Time to an extended value, and use the MCU or host to send a high to low transition to the device each time the LED Hold Time expires to keep the LED on.
