LMG2100R044: 300W Buck Solution

Part Number: LMG2100R044
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5148,

Hi expert,

We are evaluating a 300W Buck converter design for 500kHz.

Input: 48V

Output: 12V, 25A

Fsw: 500kHz

Could LMG2100 fit this power level? We are thinking use LM5148+LMG2100. Seems the power loss across GaN will be 2x25x25x4.4m=5.5W. Do we have such use case test? Thanks!

Joyce

  • Hi Joyce,

I have done the power loss calculations for this case and come up with roughly the same number. I calculate 5.7W of loss total from the LMG2100R044. The LMG2100R044 should be able to handle this power level given the customer has a thermal solution capable of handling 5.7W of loss (this should be feasible).

The LMG2100R044 has very low thermal resistance when using top side cooling, 0.7C/W. So that will help make the customer's thermal solution easier too.

  • Hi Kyle,

I saw in datasheet we have 12V/8A design, do you have any other higher load test with top side cooling? Is it possible to do a rough test for 25A level with that design? Customer concerns the performance and is not willing to do PCB without any test.

    Thanks!

    Joyce

  • Hi Joyce,

We have evaluation module for the LMG2100R044. It is possible to test this configuration using the evaluation module.
