Hi, all,
I am trying to use bqTesla to power up a MSP demo board. Is there anyway that I can extend the range between the primary coil and the seconday coil to a few cm? Currently it only works when they are about 5 mm apart.
Thanks a lot.

Hello Ben
The 5mm coil to coil distance requirement is a specification from the WPC standard. This standard will provide interoperability between RX and TX across the industry, if your device is WPC compliant it will work with any other WPC compliant device.
But if you want to operate beyond 5mm this will not comply with the specification. It can be done but you are now looking at a proprietary solution where your receiving device is required to use your transmitting device.
The bqTESLA devices can be used and bq500210EVM689 (TX) and bq51013EVM-725 (RX) would be good to start your evaluation with. They are available at TI eStore.

Hi, Bill,
Thanks a lot for the reply.
I did purchase some bqtesla eval kit from TI. I checked bq500210EVM689 (TX) and bq51013EVM-725 (RX) datasheet. It seems that they also conform with the WPC standard. How do I do that? Can I change the coils to customized coils?

The WPC transmitter coil is well defined in the specification and has little flexibility. The receiver coil has few specifications to give the designer maximum flexibility.
There is information on coil in bq51013 datasheet.
I will need more information on your application, contact me through the Conversation Feature of the Forum.
