TPS92210 24/48 Vac to 32 Vdc 700 mA driver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92210EVM-613, TPS92210, TPS92010, TPS92001

Hello,

I am designing isolated constant current Led Driver as follows:

Uin 19 .. 55 Vac

Uout 32 Vmax

Iout 700 mA

I have calculate resistor/transformer values with TPS92210EVM Design Tool 11.01.26.

I also have modified TPS92210EVM-613 kit (dimmer related components removed) with correct values and

wound my own transformer using EE20 core with 0.5 mm air gap and total Al = 102 nH

It only tries to start-up.  I have tried many transformer combinations and tried to adjust resistor values but

no result.. am I missing something..is this application even possible to do with this ic?

..and futher..

Could the I(DRN)max could be the problem?

Regards, Juha

  • Despite the fact that the output power is less than 50W, due to the low voltage input range, the peak primary side DRN current exceeds the maximum allowable current capability of the device.  The TPS92210 is limited to a maximum peak current of 4A, which flows through the device from DRN to GND.  So, Yes I(DRN) max is definitely the problem.

The TPS92010 or the TPS92001 may be a more appropriate controller for your application as the design is not limited by the peak primary side drain current.

  • Thank you,

I have to check data sheets of those you mentioned.
