BQ2972: BQ29728DSER

Part Number: BQ2972
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76905

Dear Sir,

This is to inform you that, we are designing the sensors measurement board with battery pack supply, We have a requirement of Battery Pack Monitoring and Protection IC to sensor board.

1. We are using the 4.2V, 60Ah(approx.) battery pack to powering the different sensors & electronic circuit. The current rating of the battery is selected based on the usage of the battery (6 months usage in a different time intervals) but the total current consumption of the board is around 500mA.
2. Can we use BQ29728DSER Battery monitoring & Protection IC as per our requirement ?

3. Could you please verify and give your valuable suggestion or alternatives.

  • Hi,

The BQ29728 will provide the protections as described in the datasheet, but will not report any measurements if that is what you are looking for.

The device is essentially a group of comparators looking for any overvoltage, undervoltage, or overcurrent conditions, and will then assert the relevant out pin to shut off a FET.

If you're looking for a device that will read back voltage or current measurements then you may look into the BQ76905. This is a minimum 2 cell device however, unfortunately we do not have any high-integration monitors that support single cell systems.

If all you're looking for is the autonomous protections, the BQ29728 should work for your system.

    Regards,

    Max Verboncoeur
