TPS65987D: TPS65987 PD controller design with Qualcomm structure

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS55288

Refer to attach file as PD control block diagram.

1.How the process control from TPS65987D and Qualcomm and USB-C plug insert?

2.Especial with USB0 for Qualcomm chip need detect VBUS insert event.

My scenario is

(1)USB0(USB3.1) normally for PD output 5V~20V,

(2)TPS65987D after finish communciate by CC pins with TypeC connecter insert, does it can notify to CPU(QCS6490) and controlTPS55288 for DC/DC output 5~20V  adjustable?

(3)TPS25730D behavior similar as item(2)

(4)If defailt without any image(code) inside the meory, Qualcomm PMIC(PM7250B-2) need detect VBUS insert and triggle SW code. Refer below block diagram blue circle area, does TPS65987D need insert VBUS power for workable and can detect CC pins. Or refer to block diagram, anything design incorret on TI section.

Please let me know your commect, thanks in advance.

  • 1.How the process control from TPS65987D and Qualcomm and USB-C plug insert?

TPS65987D will handle USB-PD connection and contract negotiation with the connected device.

2.Especial with USB0 for Qualcomm chip need detect VBUS insert event.

There is a GPIO Event that can be used or an IRQ interrupt to the Qualcomm part.

(2)TPS65987D after finish communciate by CC pins with TypeC connecter insert, does it can notify to CPU(QCS6490) and controlTPS55288 for DC/DC output 5~20V  adjustable?

Yes it can notify CPU. Yes TPS55288 is programmable thru I2C

    (3)TPS25730D behavior similar as item(2)

    Should be

(4)If defailt without any image(code) inside the meory, Qualcomm PMIC(PM7250B-2) need detect VBUS insert and triggle SW code. Your connection is ok. TPS65987D can be powered and on from VIN_3V3 form system or from VBUS.
