BQ79606A-Q1: The Function and Diag Tailoring in FMEDA Calculation Tool

Part Number: BQ79606A-Q1

Dear TI team:

When I useing FMEDA calculation tool to calculate FMEDA metrics. I have some questions need your help.

Note: the FMEDA calculation tool version is 3.00, document data: 2020/7/27 by David Tatman.

for example:

The ROW1526 as shown in following picture, failure mode Switch resistance 10x high, the default state is not related with safety and the safety mechanisms in column M is 'none'.

But if I think it is related with safety in our project,  I choose 'Yes' in column K, but it's still 'None' in column M.

Can I chose the SMs group 'SM101 Vcell Accuracy  SM150 Vcell Plausibility Check' in the drop-down option of this cell to cover this failure mode like the following picture? or there is  no any SM or SMs group can cover this failure mode?

The above question is just a example, not limit to this failure mode of this Part. I want to know how to deal with this situation like this?

  • Hi Zizhen,

Let me check with the functional safety team here.
    Best Regards,

    Anthony Pham.

  • Hi Zizhen,

I want to emphasize that SM101 VCELL accuracy may not have the intended use of covering this failure mode. I ultimately cannot dictate this within your system but I am clarifying with the functional safety team if this coverage can be extended in any way but this may take some time.

    Best Regards,

    Anthony Pham

  • Hi Anthony:

Thank you for your answer. the above just an example.

What I want to know is:

If the default value in Column K of a failure mode is " None", Does it mean this failure mode is not related with safety from TI view point? this failure mode will not have impact on SG1/SG2/SG3 and SG4?

If I think this failure mode is related with safety, so I choose the " Yes" in Column K of this failure mode. But if the default value in Column M of a failure mode is " None" too, Does it mean this failure mode cannot be covered by any safety mechanisms? even it has some options in the drop-down option of this cell. Or I can chose one safety mechanism group in the drop-down option of this cell to cover this failure mode?

    Best Regard!

  • The FMEDA tool is only our recommendation and advice for this device if that is satisfactory to you.

    Best Regards,

    Anthony Pham
