TPS25730: Fault In Function

Part Number: TPS25730

Hello,

I have a few questions about Fault_In.  I only see a short description in the pinout.

  • Can this pin be left floating?
  • Does this open the PPHV switch when pulled down?
  • Or does it determine whether the 25730D is powered from VIN_3V3 when VBUS is removed?
  • Is there another purpose for this pin?

Thank you,

Joe

  • Hi Joe,

Can this pin be left floating?

This pin Should not be left floating, and should be pulled high (LDO3V3) through a resistor if unused.

Does this open the PPHV switch when pulled down?

Yes, it will open the PPHV path. It will also Hi-Z the CCx pins.

    • Or does it determine whether the 25730D is powered from VIN_3V3 when VBUS is removed?
    • Is there another purpose for this pin?

No, it does not determine where power is coming from (VIN_3V3 vs VBUS). It is intended to be used to enable/disable the port.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris

  • Thanks, Chris.  For clarity sake it might be helpful to update the datasheet with this information.  The function of Fault_In appears to be for simulating a cable disconnect event, right?  With the CC lines going High Z then the Source device will think it is no longer attached.

    Exactly!

Thanks for the feedback, I'll push the request to the team and see if we can get it updated.

    Thanks and Regards,
