BQ76952: BQ76952

Part Number: BQ76952

Hi,

I'm using the BQ76952 and have and external thermistor on TS1 and am able to balance the cells.  Eventually, I would like to use the internal temperature to control the balancing as the balancing has a thermal effect on the chip and i have another device that is monitoring my cell stack.

In the tech manual, Section 4.7, it states that by setting DA CONFIG[TINT_EN] to a 1 and TINT_FETT to a 0, this will use the internal temp for protections.  I have set the bits accordingly and then I remove the thermistor and cell balancing stops.  The chip temp is about 31C when balancing (only 4 cells in the system and I have external balancing) and my cell balancing temps are set to -20C and 70C.

I have search the tech manual looking for a bit or two that I also need to set but I cannot find anything.  Am I doing something incorrect?

Thanks!!!
John

  • Hello John,

Hope all is well Slight smile.

What is the configuration for the thermistor? You may have to configure the thermistor pin to not be used for protections as well.

If I remember correctly, the part will stop balancing if any protection occurs (With the exception of COV), so if there's any protection condition, balancing may also stop.

If you read from 0x68 Int Temperature or 0x0075 DASTATUS5[10-11], does the temperature match?

Are you performing host-controlled or autonomous balancing?

  • Hi Luis,

All is well!! Project is going well.  And you?

I had TS1 config set as 0x07 which meant that TS1 was Thermistor and used for cell temperatures. I changed it to 0x0B and I can now balance without the thermistor.

    Thanks AGAIN!!

  • Hello John,

All well! Glad to hear that that fixed things! Slight smile.
