TPS610981: Best device for application

Hi,

I'm currently using the TPS610981 which has a 3.3V output but I need to change to something with a 5V output but there are so many devices to choose from.

I have a circuit running from 2x AA batteries in series = 3V and I want 5V out to power 5 WS2813B LEDs and an ESP12, I want to use a LDO from the 5V supply controlled from the ESP12 to power the LED supply.

The device will spend the majority of it's time in deep sleep @20uA and peaking to around 400mA when activated.

Can you advise the best step up converter to use?

Hi Phil,

you could use TPS61299 or TPS61299A, both has ultra low IQ,95nA ,suitable for ultra light load.

The max output current is 500mA, right? If so it should be okay.

Hi,

It was suggested to use of the TPS61299 but it is far too expensive for the design and a cheaper option is required, I was looking at the TPS613222A but whenever I use WEBENCH to configure the design the output current is always limited to 0.1Amp.

I'm not an expert in DC/DC converters, is this device limited to 0.1A as per the WEBENCH designs?

The datasheet indicates 500mA when using the Schottky diode, I'm looking for around 500mA capability using 2 AA cells in series as a supply with a 5V output.

Hi Phil,

TPS61322 couldn't support 500mA output, thus extra diode is needed. You could use TPS61099, much cheaper.
