TPS631000: TPS631000: Alternative higher reverse current

Part Number: TPS631000
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63802

TPS631000: has a peak reverse current of 0.55A. The TPS63020DSJRis about the same current.

Is there any alternative IC with a symmetrical or much higher reverse current that is also as integrated as the 2 mentioned ICs?

Also where is Q1 ? i assume it is the high side one on the input side .

Alternatively what is another option if there is no alternative with the reverse current that is at least 1A ?

  • Hi  Rushing,

Correct, Q1 is the high side FET at input side.

We have TPS63802/5/6/7 whose reverse current limit is -0.9A, since it is a peak current current, actual averange reverse inductor should be higher.

Also how is the average current supposed to be higher?

In buck mode i may think of a way but not in boost mode.

Also what operating mode determines reverse current? Forced PWM from what i understand, right?

Also is there a formulae that can help me estimate the reverse current ? I assume it is very similar to formal formulae but includes somewhere the input* voltage ?

  • Hi  Dietrich,

When Vout is higher than Vin, averange reverse input current is equal with averange inductor current, and actual averange reverse inductor is higher then reverse current limit.

When Vout is lower than Vin, Yes, you are correct, the averange negative current back to input may much lower since it is like boost converter, from Vout to Vin.

For calculation, you can just take Vout as input and Vin as output, calculate with buck or boost topology.
