BQ79656-Q1: BMS

Part Number: BQ79656-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi,

My questions are in 48V BMS to switch the Power BUS:

1. Which is the better and Efficient method of Bidirectional switching High Power Bus, Positive side Common Source or negative side Common Drain Using N-Channel Mosfets ?

2. What are the Pros and Cons of Using common drain and Common source.

Thanks & Regrads

  • Hello Abhiram,

This question sounds more like a system level question. Typically I see high voltage contactors at the top power line and another high voltage contactor on the bottom power line. Can you please provide more details as to what you are asking and how it relates to the BQ79656 device?

    Best,

         Quentin

  • Hi Quentin,

Yes, you are right, it is a system level question. BQ79656 is our main AFE, and we are planning to use on PCB shunt with that. We wanted to know which method will be compatible using this AFE if is there any.

What measures we have to take care while routing for the shunt (SRP-SRN)?

Is there any differential pair impedance control is required? or any other design measures

  • Hello Abhiram,

Here are the design considerations when setting up the SRP and SRN pins on the device.
We recommend placing an RC filter between the shunt resistor and the device pins. Be sure to place the filter capacitor as close to the pins as possible.

Additionally, when you are selecting the size of Rshunt, be sure that the allowed current is within the specs for Vcs_range absmax.

These are the main design considerations when setting up these pins on the PCB.

Let me know what other questions you may have.

    Best,

          Quentin
