BQ40Z50-R2: Suggested chemID does not match battery capacity

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Tool/software:

Hello,

i recently performed the chemID selection process using this guide: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva725a/slva725a.pdf?ts=1716295516608&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Ftool%252FGPCCHEM.

The GPC-Tool (https://www.ti.com/powercalculator/docs/gpc/gpcUpload.tsp) provided me with a list of suitable chemIDs.

I am suprised that the "best" chemID with 4.79% max deviation is for a battery with 3.2 Ah whereas my battery has a capacity of 15 Ah. Furthermore the chemID 4139 that also has 15 Ah as it sais in the bqStudio has a max deviation of 9.22%.

Is this behavior as expexted or should the chemID 4139 have the lowest max deviation?

thanks in advance!

Constantin

  • Hello Constantin,

Yes, this is normal. When the tool determines the best Chem ID for a battery, it is using the open circuit voltage of the battery for the calculations. It does not take into account the capacity of the battery.
