BQ76952: Suggested BMS 14S architecture year 2024 including SOC and SOH

Part Number: BQ76952
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-R2, BQ76940, BQ78350-R1A, , BQ34Z100

Tool/software:

Good morning,

We are developing a new BMS for a battery pack that uses lithium ion cells in the following configuration: 14S
Pack capacity: 35Ah
Maximum discharge current: 70A
Usage: small electric vehicle

It is not clear to us what the recommended architecture is. Possible options:
Option 1: BQ7652 + BQ34Z100-R2
Option 2: BQ78350-R1A + BQ76940
Option 3: Anything else suggested?

We would like to have a clear comparison between the two solutions mentioned above and above all if one is recommended for new designs (Example: the second option will go out of production in the next few years or other similar problems).

Thank you very much for your attention and best regards,

David

  • Hello David,

Currently we would recommend to use the bq76952 with the bq34z100 at the moment.

There may be different solutions in the future, but at the moment this is the best solution for gauging/protections at larger cell packs.

    Best Regards,
