BQ7718: Ground Disconnect during Fault Event

Hello,

We need to use a power MOSFET to block over-charge, but allow discharge.

To accomplish this, we need to disconnect the ground of the BQ7718 in fault condition.

Will this work? Or could it damage the IC? (schematic provided)

Hello Keith,

This might work, however it is not recommended to float the VSS pin during operation. It is not a condition that has been tested before and the device could behave unexpectedly.
