BQ76952: Are there any related documents to proceed with UL2271 certification?

Part Number: BQ76952
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ77216

Tool/software:

hello.
This is Kim from Korea.

Our company is designing a battery equipped with a BMS using TI's BQ76952 and BQ77216 and is in the process of obtaining UL2271 certification.
I need some documents for BQ76952
1. Can you tell me whether BQ76952 supports IEC60730-1?
If I support IEC60730-1, can I receive related documents?
2. Are there any IEC certifications supported other than IEC60730-1?

thank you

  • Hi Kim,

The BQ76952  as an IC has not been IEC60730 certified by TI. UL2271 is a system level certification, and the BQ76952 has safety and configuration registers that can help you pass the UL2271 and IEC certifications in your system. You will need to work with the certification agency to make sure your systems meet all the requirements for the same.

Also, for reference if there's any IEC certification on the IC performed on house by TI, you will see this on the first page of the datasheet (as shown below).

  • Thank you for answer.

If so, can I get the functional safety documentation for the bq76952?
I saw the answer in another post.

While this product family is not listed under the TI functional safety categories, TI has additional collateral for the BQ76952 which can be provided on request:
    – detailed FMEDA (failure modes, effects, and diagnostic analysis)
    – pin FMEA (failure mode & effects analysis)
    – functional safety manual
    – functional safety analysis report

Please also explain the process for signing an NDA.

    thank you

  • Hi,

You need to contact your local TI representative and they can help you to setup an NDA. After the NDA is active, they can reach us and we would be able to share the NDA additional collateral (like FMEDA, etc..).

  • Hi,

Just to add to my previous reply, in order to contact your local TI representative you can go to the product page: https://www.ti.com/product/BQ76952 and there is a link to request more information (as NDA material), you can fill that request and the customer service representative can put you in contact with the right contact if you do not know who your local TI representative is. Hope that helps.
