BQ27425-G2A: Wrong FW version.

Part Number: BQ27425-G2A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27425-G1

Tool/software:

Hello!

Situation: BQ27425-G2A on over 100 custom PCBAs. The DEVICE_TYPE read is 0x0245 which is what to be expected. But the FW_VERSION reported by the gauge is 0x0202 which according to your documentation is wrong. It should be 0x0205. The problem is that the device is in production phase (already validated) and the application FW isn't working anymore. It worked with previous lot of BQ27425-G2A which had FW_VERSION 0x0205. Why are BQ27425-G2A on the market with FW_VERSION 0x0202? Is there any possibility to change the FW on the BQ27425-G2A?

Regards,

Alexandru Petrescu

  • Hi Alex,

You can not flash new fw onto this device.

  • Hello Evan,

Thanks for your response related to changing the gauge FW. But what about the mismatch between the FW version and the gauge HW version. Now I have more information about the situation. I've attached a photo with the reel we've bought. It says G1 but when I read DEVICE_TYPE I get 0x0245 which corresponds to G2A. How is that even possible?

One more thing: having to deal with 0x0202 FW I need to know what value has "tPUCD Power-up communication delay". I didn't find it on bq27425-g1.pdf.

  • Hi Alexandru,

I am not familiar with the packaging process but whatever the device reads is correct.

    Regards,

    Evan

  • The device I have responds with DEVICE_TYPE = 0x0245 (BQ27425-G2A) and FW_VERSION = 0x0202. Is this combination allowed? I'm asking because I didn't find anything on TI documentation related to this. And one more time: having to deal with 0x0202 FW I need to know what value has "tPUCD Power-up communication delay". I didn't find it on bq27425-g1.pdf.

  • Hi,

The G1 and G2A use the same hardware so you may disregard the HW version. The 0x0202 indicates G1 FW which is what is listed on the reel.

If you should have received G2 FW please contact your local Ti office.

    Regards,

    Evan
