GPCCHEM: Test log required for the Chem ID selection

Part Number: GPCCHEM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-R2,

Tool/software:

Hi all,

I'm new to fuel gauges and I have to find a Chemical ID for my battery pack using BQ34Z100-R2 and on the "simple guide for GPC" document I've read that a log file of a charge / relaxation / discharge / relaxation test is required. What it's not clear to me is if this test can be performed on a single cell, or if it has to be done on the entire pack (in my case 14S8P) which I'm then going to use with the fuel gauge.  On the configuration file there's the info about NumCellSeries, but not on the parallels, so I'm a little confused.

Another doubt that came into my mind is: can I use different parameters than the one written on the cell datasheet for the voltage threshold (end of charge and discharge)? For example if from datasheet the charging voltage is 4.2V and the end of discharge voltage is 2.5V, and then on the battery pack I'm going to set the thresholds to 4.15V/cell and 2.75V/cell, do I have to perform the test with these values?

Thank you

Marco

  • Hey Marco,

I would recommend using the GPCCHEM tool with one cell in series. For the GPCCHEM tool, please follow the datasheet so charge the battery up to 4.2V and discharge down to 2.5V. You can make configurations to your desired voltage ranges after completing the learning cycle.
