BQ25756: How to Enable Pre-Charge Current Limit, Termination Current Limit, and Fault Status Monitoring

Part Number: BQ25756

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am working with the BQ25756 charger controller and need to enable the following features:

  1. Pre-charge current limit
  2. Termination current limit
  3. Fault status monitoring

Could you please provide guidance on which registers need to be configured to enable these features? Any example register settings or detailed explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Best regards,
Sankar Eswaran

  • Hello Sankar,

    1. Precharge is enabled by default. It is controlled by the IPRECHG register or the ICHG resistor. The IC will pick the lower value.

    2. Termination is enabled by default. It is controlled by ITERM register or the ICHG resistor. The IC will pick the lower value.

    3. Fault Statuses are enabled by default.

    Best Regards,

  • Thanks, Ethan.

    1. Precharge is enabled by default. It is controlled by the IPRECHG register or the ICHG resistor. The IC will pick the lower value.

For clarification, while the pre-charge current limit and termination current limit are enabled by default, can we manually adjust these settings according to our specific requirements? If so, is it advisable to change these limits, and are there any specific calculations or considerations we need to be aware of when doing so?

    Best regards,

  • Hello Sankar,

Yes, you can manually change the pre-charge current and termination current by changing the registers. These settings will depend on the recommendations for the battery datasheet, battery manufacturer, or your use case.
