LM5146: Clarity about Thermal shutdown temperature required

Part Number: LM5146

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

The thermal shutdown Tj (junction temperature) value is 175 degree celsius. The Tjmax temperature is 150 degree celsius. Can you please clarify how can Tjshutdown be higher than Tjmax ? We are not able to understand , if the device fails at Tjmax 150 degree celsius, how can the temperature shutdown at 175 degree help to protect device?

Thank you

  • Hello Ajit

The lifetime of the device will be degraded if TJ>150°C. A catastrophic damage is prevented by the thermal shutdown.

"If the device fails at TJ150°C" ==>The device does not immediately blow up when TJ>150°C
