TPS2H160-Q1: Loss of Ground issue

Part Number: TPS2H160-Q1

Tool/software:

We are currently using one channel of the TPS2H160BQPWPRQ1 to drive a 2A inductive load. Additionally, we have provided a freewheeling diode on the output.

We have observed that when the ground connection is removed, the board continues to operate and only stops working if the inductive load is disconnected from the output.

We also noted that when the freewheeling diode is removed, the channel partially remains on.

Upon investigating possible solutions, we came across a TI article addressing the loss of ground issue for the TPS2H160 series HSD.  Link

Could you please confirm if the solution mentioned in the document will resolve the reverse leakage current issue? Additionally, could you provide an explanation of how the circuit blocks reverse leakage current and any calculations required for the resistors and diodes?

  • Hello,

Could you provide your schematic? I would like to confirm the current limit resistor is tied to IC ground and not module ground. That could also be the issue.

To clarify, are you saying the issue of reverse current is not during a loss of ground event, but a loss of ground event combined with an open load ("inductive load is disconnected from the output") condition?

Or is it due to a loss of ground event only?

    Best Regards,

    Elizabeth
