Hi

Is it possible to connect LP5860T LED control ICs according to the attached picture (from Mosi to Miso etc.)?

  • Hi Tapani,

I am sorry it can't be connect in this way as daisy chain, LP586x family can only be connected in star chain.

Maybe you can tell me your requirements, then I can help to choose the best solution for you. Thanks!

  • Hi
    Thanks for the answer.
The purpose is an outdoor RGB matrix display for parking guidance system, such as full and closed texts and the number of free spaces.
The connection should be this daisy chain, because the LED screens can be of different sizes.
The LED current should be approx. 10mA with static control and approx. 100mA when multiplexed (8 to 11 multiplexing).
One led driver IC should be able to control at least 32 RGB-leds.
Are there some LED drivers from TI for this kind of use?

  • Hi Tapani,

I think your application could belong to Display LED driver. I recommend to contact our AE for help.

    Hi Monet,

Please help to choose a suitable device for Tapani to use in above application, thanks!

  • Hi Tapani,

in which application, do you want to such LED driver? what the timeline of your project?

currently, LP5890 can be used in your application. it is a 48 channel, 16 lines, 20mA LED Driver. so 2 scan line can control 32 RGB LEDs with 10mA average current.

if your need higher current, we are developing a new device with higher current which may have sample in the next month.

  • Hi Monet

Thank you for the quick reply.
The purpose of use is parking guidance LED displays of different sizes for outdoor use. Timeline 2024/2025.
The LP5890 is otherwise good, but we would only use two scan lines and 14 would remain unused. This is not a cost-effective solution.
What will the new higher current device be like?
Are there any preliminary data sheets about it yet?
Can it be chained with multiple devices?

  • Hi Tapani,

if you are considering the cost, LP5860 maybe better. otherwise you need to use direct LED Driver such as TLC5955 which has 48 channels(16 RGB).

By the way could you please provide the common size of your board(line pixel * column pixel)? let me check whether another device can be used in your applciation.

  • Hi Monet

The LP5860T would otherwise be perfect, but it cannot be daisy chained.
Screen sizes are from 16x96 to 48x144 RGB leds.

  • Hi Tapani,

how about the Direct LED Driver TLC5955?

  • Hi Monet
    Thanks for the answer.
The TLC5955 would be OK otherwise, but it only drives 16 RGB LEDs and is quite expensive.

  • Hi Tapani

could you please contact me by email and i will loop our marketing for price, by the way we have a new device with 48 channels.
