TPS61377EVM: Short Circuit Output Protection

Using this EVM it appears short circuits on the output cause destruction of the IC, yet the data sheet states cycle by cycle current limit protection.

    Hi Lee,

    The cycle by cycle current limit protection works in normal conditions when Vout > Vin.

    For boost devices without specially designed internal ISO FET and output short protection, in abnormal work conditions such as Vout short, the cycle by cycle current limit protection can't take effect and the device will have high risk to be damaged.

    Thank you. Either I add an external S/CCT element or change IC's. Thank you. In reality though, the part as a low cost boost isn't so low cost when dedicated short circuit protection circuit is required. Our VIN is 5V and Output is 24V, so a shorted output is indeed catastrophic, as expected it would seem
