Hello,

New here to the E2E forums.

I have recently been tasked with the update of a legacy PCBA within my company. The primary reason for the update is the obsolete Texas Instrument PT6304 DC/DC regulator module. The converter looks to be used as a constant current LED driver in our application.

I found the SLTA006A application note and it shows a very similar topology to our design.

Does TI have a recommended replacement series for this DC/DC module? A part number would be helpful to jumpstart my efforts towards a new design.

Hi,

What is your input voltage and how much current do you need?

The TPSM828512 is a newer module, which can output a constant current by using its SS/TR pin, like in this app note: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva451a/slva451a.pdf

Hi Chris,

I would like to match the max current output of 3A and I found that the system input voltage for this PCBA is 24V

Thanks for confirming. So, you need a 24Vin, 3A LED driver buck? Are you driving just 1 LED, with a voltage of around 3V?

Hi Chris,

Quick search shows that the load is three(3) LEDs in parallel with three(3) LEDs for a total of six(6) LEDs. The existing regulator design is a 12V output.

Are you reaching out for a LED driver like the TPS92630-Q1 ? I will hand over the thread to the LED team.

If you want a general BUCK converter, TPS62933 is recommended. (30V, 3A buck converter)

We recommend using a TPS92643-Q1 3A, synchronous, buck LED driver.

Thanks Everyone for the recommendations, this is great to get me started on a new design.

It is not a TI part, but I found the Recom Power R-7312P which looks to be a drop in replacement for the PT6304N DC/DC Step-Down regulator.

I'll mark this thread as resolved for now.
