[FAQ] BQ25620: How does the charge safety timer work for BQ25620, BQ25622, BQ25622E, BQ25628, BQ25628E, and BQ25629?

Part Number: BQ25620
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25628E, BQ25622E, BQ25628, BQ25629, BQ25622

Tool/software:

The safety timer for the BQ25620, BQ25622, BQ25622E, BQ25628, BQ25628E, and BQ25629 functions as a protection against prolonged charging caused by abnormal battery charging status. The precharge safety timer is default 2.5 hours and the fast charge safety timer is default 14.5 hours. The precharge safety timer can be changed to 0.62hr and the fast charge safety timer can be changed to 28 hours.

An interrupt will be generated and the SAFETY_TMR_STAT bit will be set to 1 when a timer expires.

By default, the precharge and fast charge safety timers are counted at half clock rate when in input voltage, input current, JEITA cool or warm, or thermal regulation. The half clock rate can be disabled via TMR2x_EN bit.

The safety timer can be disabled in I2C parts.
