BQ25798: MPPT to supplement USB OTG Output

Part Number: BQ25798

Tool/software:

So far, the BQ25798 looks perfect for my power bank application (minus my 150W battery discharge to VSYS requirement which can be accomplished with an external BATFET (SLUAAT7). But I'd like to have the MPPT input be able to supplement VBUS when operating in OTG mode. As the two inputs are effectively OR'd together, I'm assuming only one can be active at a time. And obviously, I can't back feed to input 1 or 2 and draw current from the other.

How would I attach a separate MPPT charger into the system that would make sense? Would I attach it directly to VSYS?

How can the BQ25798 coordinate with the separate MPPT?

Can you recommend any chips to look at?

  • Hello Abram,

    Yes, This is correct.

This is not something we have ever done or seen before, so we cannot guarantee this will work. It might be possible to attached the separate MPPT to the PMID pin, I recommend testing this on an EVM.

    Best Regards,

    Christian.
