TPS23731EVM-095: Sifos test fail

Part Number: TPS23731EVM-095
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23731, PMP22806

Tool/software:

Hi Sir,

cusotmer test TPS23731 EVM board for Sifos verify, but the inrush current seemed to exceed the high limit at the type-1 level and failed.

is there any way to improve it? thanks for your support and learn from you.

  • Hi Tommy,

    Thanks for reaching out.

I see the failure only happened in Type-1 test. I think the failure could just be the load current is beyond Type-1.

Type-1 PD input power should be less than 13W. It looks like you set 2.5A load current, 5V*2.5A/efficiency will be higher than that. If you set load current less than 2A, the test may be passed.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Diang,

    ok, thanks for you support,

if we want to modify the output voltage to +15V, do we only need to modify the transformer parameter (turns ratio/ Lp..) , and feedback voltage resistor?

have any reference design data can let us reference?

  • Hi Tommy,

    Thanks for your reply.

    Yes, you will need to change the transformer turns ratio. For 15V output, PRI:SEC = 2 to 3 : 1, AUX:SEC = 0.8 : 1 make VCC always below 16V.

Feedback loop resistor, output side capacitors, FET Vds rating voltage also need change.

Sorry that we currently do not have 15V flyback reference design for TPS23731. PMP22806 (www.ti.com/.../PMP22806) is a 12V rated one which is closest. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

    Best regards,

    Diang
