BQ76942: Paired with BQ24610 does not detect charger

Part Number: BQ76942
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610,

Tool/software:

Hello Experts,

We have a BQ76942 as a monitor and a BQ24610 as a charger. However, the monitor chip does not recognize when a charger is connected to the BQ24610 to charge the cells. The reason for this is, as far as I could narrow it down, that the delta between the measured TOS stack voltage and the pack voltage is not reached. The BQ24610 delivers 25.2 volts (to charge 6 cells). However, the BQ Studio shows that the measured stack voltage is approximately the same as the stack voltage.

Status: Sleep mode active, DSG Fet on CHG Fet off

  • If sleep mode is deactivated, charging works without any problems. Charging also works if CHG is configured to On during sleep mode.
Is there a significant disadvantage if CHG is activated during sleep mode (using FET:option), as both DSG FET and CHG FET are then active?

Edit: Or would it be better to not allow sleep mode?

  • Hello,

If 25.2V is your PACK voltage, what is your TOS voltage?

In order for the device to exit SLEEP MODE, PACK pin voltage needs to be higher than the top-of-stack voltage by more than Power:Sleep:Sleep Charger PACK-TOS Delta (in your settings is 2000mV) and the top-of-stack voltage is less than Power:Sleep:Sleep Charger Voltage Threshold (in your settings is 20000mV).

    Best regards,
